When two peacekeepers wrote home about the children in a village with no school in eastern Bosnia, they thought their friends and family would donate a few hundred dollars to help the children. Instead, family and friends in Minnesota donated over $9,000.
BILD was asked to act as a steward of the donated funds and to help organize the effort to rebuild the elementary school in Nova Kasaba. BILD lead a volunteer action preparing the structure that would be restored for a two-room elementary school and then used the strong show of support from the village to gain the support of local and international authorities.
The structure was restored with additional donated funds. The $9,000 was spent on all that was needed for the interior, all the furniture and didactic materials. BILD then received more private donations for a computer, vcr, television, and more.
Over 100 people participated in the volunteer action preparing the structure: 45 volunteers from Srebrenica, 30 volunteers from Tuzla, 25 peacekeepers, and over 50 people from the local community

Furniture and school supplies arrive financed by private donations from soldiers, friends, and families of the Minnesota National Guard.
