With start-up funds of $135,000 from the World Bank, BILD initiated our development program called "Nova Inicijativa" (The New Initiative) which creates income-generating activities at community organizations while using our community service projects to build the human and social capital, the productive relationships, necessary for sustainable development.
Today, in Tuzla, as a result of our program, there are income-generating activities at 6 community organizations providing jobs for their members and generating funds for projects serving the community organization's core mission.
Towards these income-generating activities, BILD has invested equipment and material. Some examples:
Members of the Tuzla University student organization "Progres" installing a rug at their computer center called STARnet. With 21 computers that students can rent for one hour for the price of a cup of coffee (1KM or $0.70), STARnet generates enough income to employ 4 students and provide monthly stipends to 6 students with special needs. In addition, STARnet provides IT services for BILD's staff and projects.
With a van, construction tools, and agricultural machines provided by BILD, Feniks has succeeded in establishing several income-generating activities. With funds from these activities Feniks continues to invest in their activities and their property recently provided by the Tuzla municipality.
Members of the Tuzla Deaf Association (UGOS) restoring a jeep at their auto repair facility. Services provided by UGOS include auto repair, painting, car wash. In addition, UGOS has a cafe serving members of UGOS and their guests.
