Development

Our development projects emphasize local investment, self-reliance, and sustainability. We combine our own material contributions with local investments to provide families and organizations with the means for creating sustainable income. Inherent in our development projects is experiential learning giving people practical skills and knowledge. And most importantly, our projects are designed to cultivate and strengthen the values and productive relationships necessary for sustainable development.

Creating Sustainable Income for Women in Eastern Bosnia

This project harnesses the collective purchasing power of women’s associations in eastern Bosnia thereby giving families who have returned to their pre-war homes the ability to acquire baby chicks and chicken food at reduced prices. The overall objectives of the project are to strengthen local community organizations, empower women, promote cross-cultural reconciliation, and support sustainable return. Learn More »

This approach results in a strong sense of ownership, a spirit of self-reliance, and a feeling of accomplishment and genuine partnership. Learn More »

STARnet – a Self-sustaining Student-run Computer Center

In 2003, a group of students participated in our community service projects and earned equipment for their own income-generating computer center. Today, their student organization is purchasing their third generation of computers with their own funds, employing students, generating funds for their projects helping students with special needs, and contributing their services to BILD projects.
