Care Packages for Children
in Eastern Bosnia

project in pictures

project funded by

South East Europe Development Solutions

Eastern Bosnia is a region that experienced extreme horrors during the war and remains a place of great difficulty as families have tried to move back to their prewar homes and rebuild their lives and communities.

With private donations, BILD delivers care packages to elementary schools, day care centers, and orphanages. The care packages include school supplies, books, clothing and toys depending on the private donor's wishes and the children's needs.

The goal of these efforts is two-fold: to bring joy to children in disadvantaged circumstances and to bring hope to the families and communities in these troubled areas of Bosnia.

Children at the Zvornik orphanage receiving school supplies donated by a private donor. The orphanage is far from Tuzla and about 10 miles from Zvornik so they receive fewer donations and fewer visitors than the larger orphanages closer to urban centers. The relationship with the Zvornik orphanage began in February 2004 with a donation from COL You-ying Whipple of the 14th rotation of US peacekeepers.

Children from the Nova Kasaba elementary school received visitors 4 or 5 times each year when US peacekeepers were deployed in Bosnia. Now, BILD staff and international guests visit Nova Kasaba from time to time to see the children we first met in 2004 when the elementary school was restored with funds from families, friends, and soldiers of the Minnesota National Guard.
